PETROG & PetrogLite

Area of Interest (AoI): enhancements to options available

a) It is now possible to define separate AoIs for different purposes, e.g. textural data collection, compositional data collection and image stitching.

b) You can choose to inherit a previous AoI from any sample, from any project, created for any purpose.

Image Stitching improvements

There is an improved interface for specifying how to collect images for stitching and a viewer for looking at the stitched "virtual" image. (It is referred to as a virtual image because the viewer stitches images as needed. The entire stitched image does not exist as a single file as this would be difficult to handle in most computers).

Touchstone data collection and export

a) Changes to the mapping from PETROG  to Touchstone 7 remove previous ambiguities and allow less items to be unmappable.

b) There is a new keyboard mapping purely for Touchstone 7 data logging.

c) Speeded up reporting

Error handling

PETROG is now integrated with EurekaLog7, for error handling and memory leak checking. This should lead to less errors arising from memory management problems and also help to locate bugs if they are encountered.

Camera-specific improvements

a) Nikon - the mechanism for ensuring that the desired camera settings, as configured in NIS Elements, are applied in PETROG has been improved and is now fully documented in a new tutorial

b) PixeLINK - PETROG is now compatible with the latest drivers from PixeLINK, which are installed along with Capture OEM v9.3. This addresses a bug that previously could lead to intermittent software crashes in PETROG . Also, PETROG is now compatible with a range of PL-C and PL-D USB 3.0 cameras (exact models to be confirmed, please contact us if you wish to use PETROG with one of these cameras).

Listing / Selecting samples

Retrieving the number of grains logged for textural is time-consuming so is now only on demand (but is also faster than it was).

Database Administration

a) General improvements to importing and replacing tables

b) General improvements to managing keyboard mappings

Reporting on DLL versions

PETROG checks the versions of DLL files and displays a message if they need to be updated.
