PETROG - What’s new

New features

There is now an option to associate two stitched image sets for a sample, so that you can collect image pairs at the same points but under different light conditions (normally PPL and XPL) and tag them for simultaneous viewing. Once image sets are associated, their stitched virtual images can be viewed together – both the PPL and XPL virtual images are visible at the same time, and the windows are synchronised by default, so that the effects of scrolling, panning and zooming are consistent in both windows. If the images were not collected for the same AoI, there is an option to manually provide a common reference point. This new functionality is explained in detail in the new Tutorial 21 (available from https://ws2.petrog.com/support/tutorials.html). There is also a new demo project, VirtualSlideDemo, which illustrates this in action (this project is currently only available to users installing from scratch, not those who are simply updating an existing v4 installation to this latest version. It will be available to all in future revisions; if you would like to see it now, please contact support@petrog.com).
Touchstone 8 – the “Export to Touchstone” functionality has been extended to include export of the new compositional categories introduced by Touchstone 8. More user input is needed to finalise an interface for collecting the new coating information; please contact support@petrog.com if you have views on this.

Bug Fixes

Default settings for crosshairs display and compositional logging levels to use are now being applied correctly for new projects.
The ‘Back’ button in concurrent compositional/textural logging had been disabled (but only in ‘concurrent’ mode) while we addressed issues that led to potential mismatches between the compositional and textural data strands when using this button. The button is now enabled in all modes.
‘Grain outline’ textural data collection now supported for TIS (The Imaging Source) cameras.
Recent changes to the ‘Set Camera Settings’ window had broken changes to individual camera settings - these are now being applied correctly.
Fixed an issue in SteppingStage selection, in that switching from Mk1 serial to Mk1.5 USB was not working properly, as the selection was not being applied properly once the SteppingStageSelection dialog was closed.
The EOutOfResources memory leak, sometimes observed when viewing large virtual images, is now suppressed, following discussion with EurekaLog support that indicates this is due to a bug in Delphi 10.1 Berlin (Embarcadero) and does not affect PETROG use.
(Zeiss cameras only) The display of crosshairs and overlay lines when zoomed out was broken by recent changes necessary for supporting the new Zeiss camera software development kit. This is now resolved.
Fixed some minor bugs in Exporting TickLists.
Fixed some errors in exporting / importing report templates.
When using 'Choose from Full List' during quantitative compositional logging, if the ‘search’ facility was used, and then the OK button clicked (i.e. the selection defaulted without clicking in the hierarchical listing), the wrong item was selected, due to a bug in the Microsoft tree-view. PETROG now automatically fixes this.

Improvements

Zeiss cameras, changing settings (Setup | Camera | Set Camera Settings): min/max values on the sliders for setting the R, G and B values are now set to (0.01, 2.99) for consistency with AxioVision; additionally, an onscreen hint now shows when hovering over the RGB controls, to explain how they work (i.e. to say that they now work in the same way as in AxioVision). For setting exposure using the slider, the maximum value is now set to 1000000 instead of 60000000, so that the slider bar is easier to use
Zeiss and PixeLINK cameras, changing settings (Setup | Camera | Set Camera Settings): if this window is entered and then exited using ‘Cancel’, some settings could still have been changed, due to rounding. This bug is now fixed.
"Collect Images for Stitching" – this option has many windows, and some could be lost either off-screen or behind another window, so now the windows are all shown ‘docked’ within a single window (this was mainly affecting the "Objectives / Light Conditions" window).
It is now possible to burn a scale bar on to previously saved images. More sensible window positioning when selecting to display ‘A’ and ‘B’ images for a particular point.
Under Admin | Database Management Utilities there is now an option to transfer database settings easily from one database (i.e. data style – sedimentary, coal, concrete, etc.) to another. This should be useful for anyone using more than one data style, so that the microscope, camera and calibration settings can be set once and then copied. If you wish to use this option, you may wish to check (support@petrog.com) which tables need to be copied (we plan to make this transparent in future releases).

Bugs reported but not yet fixed

When choosing an AoI to inherit, if you choose a different Project and then go back to the current one, you can no longer choose an AoI that was showing previously.
In certain situations, the Keyboard Mapping window can appear during compositional logging when no such mapping has been selected. The window can be moved to the edge of the monitor where it is not in the way, or a workaround for this is to exit logging, open the Data Methodology window, close this window, and resume logging.
