Problem: SteppingStage Serial to USB Connection

Older SteppingStage control boxes are designed to be connected to a PC RS-232 serial COM port. Some PCs, especially laptops do not have these fitted as standard. We recommend that you connect a SteppingStage to a COM port, and do not support other connections.

In some cases connections have been made to USB ports using a cable and software combination to provide conversion between COM and USB. We have found that some makes of cable do not always work reliably with the SteppingStage.

Advice

This connection should work with a serial to USB converion. However it is not a supported connection. We are unable to offer a solution, other than suggesting you check your connections, ensure your USB port is working correctly. If there is not a PC fault it is likely that changing to a different conversion cable may solve the problem.
