PETROG & PetrogLite 5.8.2

Release date : 2025-08-08

PETROG

Enhancements:

It is now possible to enter annotations (i.e. free-hand text comments) when capturing individual

images (via menu option Capture | Image).  These annotations are saved to the database, and so it

is then possible to list all individually captured images for a sample and any corresponding

annotations will be displayed, and can be exported for copying to a spreadsheet.

It is now possible to select a different decimal separator to that for the current locale, in order to control the decimal separator used in the generated report (so for instance, it is

possible to generate a report with values such as 0.12345, even if the PC on which PETROG

is running has an active Windows locale with a comma decimal separator).

Major/minor axis textural logging from stored images can now be performed in all camera versions.

Cameras:

General: crosshair calibration now supported when hardware ROI is active.

Jenoptik: improved error handling to reduce the chance of error messages being displayed behind the image window.

Olympus DP:  The new DP75 camera is now supported; fixes relating to application of "shutter time"

values for all cameras; the active preset is now automatically applied when opening the image window.

Olympus SIS (Evident): Fixed white balance option in Camera Settings; fixes for textural data collection via outline logging when revisiting existing logged compositional data locations.

TIS (The Imaging Source): changes made with a view to reducing the chance of start/stop errors during grain outline logging.

Zeiss: Minor fixes whilst testing with AxioCam 712 (previously not tested with this particular model).

Improvements:

"Disk space low" messages now displayed in image window if these occur during logging.

Option to specify decimal separator when importing PETROG Exchange files, useful if they come

from a different locale.

It is now possible to specify options for concurrent logging so that it can be set such that textural measurements are no longer requested once the target number of grains have been measured.

It is now possible to change the "font size scaling" for grain size histograms so that the text on the histogram can be made bigger if necessary, and the change also applies to the exported bitmap.

"Support information" is now logged automatically to the debug files - this includes all the relevant output from the "Copy to Clipboard" button in the "About Petrog" window, and also additional information about expected locations of help files.

Updates to importing of data from PetrogLite data files so that it is fully compatible with

data from older PetrogLite (i.e. pre-v5) installations.

Bug fixes:

Area of Interest window buttons are now always correctly displayed, positioned and captioned when switching from any AoI shape to another.

File menu options for Save and Grab now enabled when using Capture-Image option.

Fix for access violation when saving a camera preset in some cases.

Fixes relating to setting of hotkey lists / keyboard mappings.

Fixes relating to reporting of ternary classification to spreadsheet.

Fixed memory leak when using the menu option Admin | Database Management | Display Database Table;

and related fix for error if double-clicking on empty space in the grid (i.e. below the available rows) in this window.

Area of Interest window buttons are now always correctly displayed, positioned and captioned when switching from any AoI shape to another.

Now applies consistent formatting to reported % and % change values.

Fixed issue with '<' being treated as a skip because it matches the first character of the display text for skips; and fixes relating to the ASCII code for the right-arrow key being defaulted incorrectly, which mean that the apostrophe key was being treated as a skip; also some fixes when parsing v5 and v4 log files so that skips in these files do not cause errors when reading them.

Changed the optional "Skip by 10" key from the right-arrow key to the '>' (i.e. 'greater than' symbol) key, in order that this works consistently and does not impact on other keys (as per issue

above relating to the apostrophe key). "None" is now the default for Skip10, so that this is not active unless switched on; fixes when Enter is the chosen key for a single Skip key.

"Support information" is now logged automatically to the debug files - this includes all the relevant output from the "Copy to Clipboard" button in the "About PetrogLite" window, and also additional information about expected locations of help files.
